First Steps

Welcome to the Law School Admissions cycle! As you begin your journey, there’s a few key resources you’ll need to get started.

  1. You’ll need to create an LSAC account. Everything from taking the LSAT to submitting your application is done through LSAC, so this account will be with you the whole way. I recommend creating a fresh email account specifically for this and all things law school applications. Emails are quick to fill up with spam, and the less spam you have the less likely you are to miss an important email. If you’ve already created your LSAC account, you can change your email in your profile settings on the LSAC website.
  2. A LawHub Advantage subscription. This is LSAC’s official LSAT prep service, and is home to all of their released exams and official practice tests. Even if this is not your primary LSAT prep source, a subscription to LawHub Advantage is required to use any other LSAT prep service.
  3. An Excel spreadsheet of all the schools you are planning on applying to. On this sheet you can put relevant email addresses, phone numbers, notes, and other data that will help you keep track of your law school admissions cycle progress. You will need a solid organizational structure to have a handle on your cycle!

These are the basics that will serve as a foundation for your admissions cycle. As to what this cycle will entail, the conventional approach to the cycle is as follows:

Study for the LSAT -> Take the LSAT -> Essays & Letters of Rec -> Apply -> Wait -> Decide
